Appraisals

Appraisals

Appraisals are a serve we offer at Albert Kaz Jewelry.  Jewelry purchased in our store is eligible for a free appraisal. You will receive a document assessing the piece and its value based on current market prices.  We, also, do more extensive appraisals for a fee.

What is an appraisal?

An appraisal is a document that states how much a piece of jewelry is worth.  To arrive at a particular value your jeweler will look at many factors, such as, the condition of the piece, its gemstones; their quality and characteristics, the settings and the metals from which they are made.

Why have an appraisal?

The most common reason for an appraisal is for insurance purposes.  Any piece of jewelry you want to insure must be appraised.  Additionally, they should be done every so often as the value of precious metals and gemstones fluctuates often.  Jewelry should, also, be re-appraised if the items have been altered in anyway.  For example, if a ring has been sized or if links have been added or removed from a bracelet or a watch.  This is because metal and possibly stones have been added or removed which would change the value of the jewelry. If your jewelry is lost or stolen, the detailed description in the appraisal is useful not only for collecting insurance, but also for identifying jewelry if it is found.
